Adel Salameh from Palestine played the oud, an ancient mandolin-like instrument of the Middle East. He was obviously a master musician, but the intricate rhythms and unfamiliar tunes of his repertoire were difficult for us to fully appreciate. The performance by his group on the small "Tree Stage" Saturday night was not enjoyed by much of the audience. It might have been better if that "chamber music" performance had been inside the theater, less subject to rude crowd noises.
